All I Need…

I wanted to share my take on the resources and tools I find most useful on my spiritual path. I have found books, courses, internet videos, spiritual retreats to be extremely helpful. However, if I choose to use tools or teachers I do so with the awareness that although I may learn much from another’s journey and experiences ultimately my focus needs to stay on my inner experience.

I also receive wisdom by observing nature, from the actions of young children, from the challenging relationships and experiences I face, from slowing down and connecting to stillness … from just living life as fully as I can.

There is no shortcuts. We all have to do our personal work, face our own demons, cultivate presence and stillness in our lives, etc. Anytime we look to anything external to provide us with a shortcut or answers we are giving our power away. Just like if we choose to only rely on a doctor to cure our illness without doing the hard work to practice self care and a cultivate healthy lifestyle.

I used to look for my salvation in books and courses from personal growth gurus and spiritual teachers but I never actually did the hard personal work that many authors’ wisely suggested. I now realize that although a lot of their messages are hugely helpful, the ultimate authority is myself. I trust my feelings and gut first. I take what feels good and leave the rest.

Eckhart Tolle  states in The Power of Now that what we really need is our inner wisdom and to actively practice being present in our daily lives.

“I cannot tell you any spiritual truth that deep within you don’t know already. All I can do is remind you of what you have forgotten.” Eckhart Tolle, The Power of Now
